A: “My favorite kind of sessions are the ones where clients come in, and they don't have much confidence with their writing, saying something like, ‘My writing is terrible!’ I love being able to reassure clients and teaching them various writing techniques and watching concepts 'click' with them.”
—Harley, undergraduate consultant
A: “Watching students realize that they have the ability to be a good writer is such a cool thing to witness.”
—Lexie, professional consultant
A: “My absolute favorite type of session has to be outlining and brainstorming sessions! There is nothing more interesting than getting to help someone work through a prompt and hear their initial ideas on a topic.”
—Damian, graduate consultant
Q: What would you like to tell your undergraduate self about the UWC?
“I wish I could go back and tell my undergraduate self to not procrastinate with assignments and to seek help earlier on. Writers should never feel like they are ever alone to complete their work. It puts so much unnecessary stress and expectations on themselves, which [the UWC] can definitely help to relieve!”
—Harley, undergraduate consultant
“I wish I could tell my undergrad self that not using the Writing Center is a waste of a good resource. Every paper or piece of writing can benefit from having a second opinion or another person to look it over”
—Lexie, professional consultant
“The number one thing I would tell myself if I could, would have been simply Use It! The Writing Center is a flexible and accommodating resource, and even if it is a bit scary going into a new space for the first time, it is such a welcoming and helpful resource that I can't believe I waited so long to experience it!”
—Damian, graduate consultant
